PACE Program Grant
Gifts of Speech is happy to participate in Sweet Briar College's PACE Program: Promoting Academic & Community Engagement. The PACE program is a service learning program, which is subsidized through the generosity of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund. The PACE mission is to provide highly trained students to community partners through classroom instruction, training and volunteerism. Students in PACE classes are able to apply knowledge and skills from the classroom to the real world in service to others.
Students in the PACE Program volunteer their time to the Gifts of Speech Project by digitizing speeches, and by scanning archival documents and photographs in the creation of a ContentDM digital collection called The Sweet Briar College President's Digital Archive. Once it is available online, this collection will feature original speeches, poems, letters and photographs of the former female Presidents of Sweet Briar College. The Sweet Briar College President's Digital Archive will be of value to researchers in women's history, the history of the education of women and the history of the education of women in the American South.
